Simon Gift Card - $1k max?

Just got a call from a friend who went to Simon Mall to buy GC. Was told that corporate send message this AM with instructions not to sell customers more than $1k of GC.

Can anyone else confirm?

1k for an individual or even a business? I'm able to purchase as many as I want using my tax ID.

Apparently a company outing to a few Walmarts and Target isn't what they consider "legitimate business use".
