Canadian Credit Cards
« on: February 01, 2011, 08:18:04 PM »
Hey Dan (or anyone else reading)

Do you have any good tips for Canadians regarding good credit cards? I'm a huge fan of your site but I can't usually get any of the awesome credit card benefits because I'm Canadian and as far as I know, we don't have a site as good as this one for credit cards north of the border.
Please help us

Thanks!

The starwood amex also charges like $50 or $65 per additional cardholder u can double check that. However the aeroplan gives u At least one additonal cardholder free and i believe even two. Plus on the aeroplan the points are 1=1  ratio and every dollar after $10000 dollars spent is 1=1.25 points ratio. Also the most flights out of Canada is Air Canada.

Is there still way to get Canadian SPG without annual fee? According to their site there iss $120 annual fee.
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

Starwood has a 20k bonus now for Canadians. Also a side note, that Canadian MR points transfer into SPG at 2:1 which is better than the US rate of 3:1

I am under the impression that the 20k offer is over. If you have a link please post.

Thanks.
Anyone know when the annual fee hits on the Canadian cards?

*Modification*

Charged on 1st statement after Card issued and once a year thereafter (regardless of card activation).

I don't see why it wouldn't, but can anyone confirm the 3 browser method works in Canada?

How do the credit bureaus work in Canada?

The 3BM has two functions: The first is to get more approvals with one bank at one time, the other is to keep credit pulls low by having multiple apps pull at once. I'm confident 3BM works in Canada for the former, for the latter you'd have to answer my question to have a better idea.

Has anyone had experience having both a Canadian and US Amex card of the same type. Do they give you any problems?

How would they even realize, the accounts are managed separately and they use different identification numbers (SSN in the US and SIN in Canada).

Have you had experience? I would imagine your correct but theres nothing like actual empirical evidence.
