Is there any way to get rid of the annual fee and still keep the points?

The Spg business Amex Canada card has now increased the offer from 10k to 20k after spending 1k in 3 months. A 150 annual fee applies.  If anyone is interested in signing up and would be willing to let me refer them, please PM.

Any way around the AF?

You can HUCA till you get a rep who will let you cancel with an AF refund... Other than that, no.

you basically have to go in assuming you won't get it refunded.

I've gotten the $399 AF refunded multiple times for the Biz Plat card..... if anyone needs a referral for that one :D

One time they credited it then when I went in for check to be sent out for credit balance they told me I was given an AF refund by mistake and it would be taken back. Asked for supervisor and argued for a while, he said nothing could be done. I asked for 10k MR as compensation, he said yes and credited them to a diff card on the spot. I hung up. He though the first rep had debited the $399, she thought he would. I called again, got the check, cashed it.

Whats best offer for Aeroplan card these days?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

CIBC AeroGold Biz card. 25k FYF no spend. May require incognito. CIBC pulls EQ.

beware that cibc may require you to pick up at a branch which will be a problem if you're in the us.

Amex Canada is more or less killing their refer-a-friend program................................

Quote
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Effective January 11, 2016, this Card is no longer eligible for a referral bonus. You can still refer the Card to your friends and family but you will not earn a referral bonus for any approved referral.
Your friend could earn our highest Gold Rewards Card points offer of 25,000 Bonus Membership Rewards points when they charge $500 in purchases to their Card in the first 3 months of Cardmembership5 . Offer subject to change at any time. Plus they pay no annual fee for the first year.*

End of an era.

Don't tell me I missed that opportunity...

The rules MAY not change for the Plat, BGR, and SPG as these terms have not been amended. Too soon to know what will really happen

Update: False alarm (for now). I just confirmed that only the Gold level cards (Amex Gold, Aeroplan Gold) are no longer part of the refer-a-friend program.... The 15k glitch is still alive and well so even you have an Amex Gold/AP Gold you can still participate in the RAF program at the rate of 15k per referral. For now.

I saw that but the website does not seem to have a link for new applicants. Are you sure it is still being marketed?
