I don't know about Verizon, but from my experience with at&t, at&t and cricket work in at&t go phones (at&t prepaid)

If you wish to use it as a mini tablet do not activate it . when the phone is on touch the corners of the screen clockwise from the top left . you may have to do it twice. It will then go past the activation screen
