I've booked roundtrip tickets to the Far East on United that crossed both the Atlantic and the Pacific, so that would technically be a "around the world"

You're also entitled to a stopover and two open jaws. If you stop in Europe on the way to Asia, you can hop around Europe on a discount carrier or avios, and then continue on your journey to the East.

My personal routing was EWR-TLV(1 week stopover)-IST(~20 hours)-KTM(~8 hours)-{bkk}-CNX (destination) and then Return HAN-{BKK-TYO}-JFK (all for 80k).

1)Is total milage flown calculated by routings (IE FCO-WAW-TLV) or from points (IE FCO-TLV)?
2) Is an airline YQ tacked on per segment or once I fly that Airline the YQ will not be charged until I end the itinerary?

ETA: Does this mean no YQ to LHR on AC & UA?
