Sharm el-Sheikh

Anyone ever been here? Safe for the American traveler? Supposedly the scuba diving is amazing + hotels are cheap & nice.. Didn't see a thread for this.. Maybe for good reason  ;) ;D

Prob bad idea these days considering ISIS running around in the Sinai

Bunch of my friends were there but that was a few years ago. Said it was amazing.

Ive been there a few years back. stayed here. its 3k points. stunning pools and water front. They have free snorkeling at the hotel and you can book a trip through them for scuba diving, which is amazing. make sure you bring your own food  :P

I traveled from Eilat down, but now that can be dangerous. (prob was then too  :o  )
Sharm itself was safe, and the scuba diving is fantastic. I stayed in the Sheraton, and wasnt treated well. (Was given major problems about being booked on someone else's spg account.) We moved from there to the dirt cheap Aida hotel, which was awesome chill, in a ghetto sort of way. Not at all fancy, but suprisingly three star quality for just $28 a night! If you want luxury though I would reccomend finding an All-inclusive deal...

I've been there a couple of years ago, I'd go there today.

I'm not necessarily advising anyone to go there, but from what I'm reading on google, Sharm should be safe from the Sinai chaos, given that it's secured by the Gov., Most of the sinai wasn't.

They are keeping tourist places safely guarded, they cant risk anything happening. Yet if there is a rocket attack nothing can protect that.

Even if Sharm is safe (relatively speaking) getting there wouldn't be. When I was in Israel we went to Cairo through the Sinai. Now I wouldn't even consider it.

People want to travel from Israel on the cheap, not fly there

A safer option for nice hotels in that region is the Dead Sea region of Jordan. Much nicer hotels than the Israeli side and pretty cheap as well
