tallis for travelling
« on: July 14, 2015, 10:23:55 AM »
Here is my silly question for the day: do you have a separate tallis for traveling? My regular tallis is large and kind of on the heavier side (or call it standard). This is not a problem if I travel from point A to point B. However, when I travel extensively and on a non-luxurious - lightly packed fashion: several flights, car, bus, train, bike, boat, etc, then this weight actually adds quite a bit. Anyone faced the same problem?

You know how a cholent comes out differently depending on what pot is used... And once you perfect it in  your pot you are wary of using another pot lest it burn,  or come out too watery ...? I feel that my tallis is the same.  I have seasoned it with many years of davening.   It's  weight is most comforting even on a hot,  humid summer day without air conditioning.

Just my .02,  of course OP should consider buying a lightweight tallis for traveling if he so desires.

Perhaps try leaving the tallis bag at home and placing your tallis in a large gallon size ziplock bag for the duration of your trip.

I have borrowed from a friend a lightweight talis that was meant for travelling or hiking. Not sure where he got it from but I love using it when I am travelling light.
