I think it's more about the "culture" of being annoyed by tachnun than actually being annoyed by tachnun.
It's a nachas to watch someone yell "nu tachnun"
Reminds me of the story told by Rabbi Peysach Krohn (a mohel) that he came into shul one Monday and someone looks at him and says 'yay', but when he notes that he didn't have a bris that day, the guy screams aloud, 'so what good are you?'
