More than 30  years ago a neighbor, a goy, put a yoshka in her front window.  She explained to my mother that it stopped the mishulachim from ringing her bell.

I'm not self-hating, all the jokes about meshulachim were only in the spirit of good humor.

In fact, when I installed a Ring doorbell a while back, I told my wife that I'm making a kabbalah to never ignore the door if I see a meshulach. The purpose of the doorbell is for safety and convenience, not that I can vet visitors and make believe I'm not home.
