It may be an honest mistake as I've read that businesses can opt into that badge but Uber also uses some other lists to automatically give some businesses that badge, so it could've just been pulled from somewhere msitakenly.

Someone I knew who was born in (IIRC) Algeria used to fill out African American on all scholarship and similar applications. He is certainly more African American than those who identify as such.

Seems like the legal definition "African American" is "a person having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa."

My black neighbor is fond of saying the I am more African American then he is
