Is this a standard practice for all rebbes/chassidusim or unique to the last chabbad rebbe?AFAIK, halachacly, the only place where shoes are prohibited is in the beis hamikdos and by bircas kohanim.
People (The Rebbe included) didn't wear leather shoes to the Previous Rebbe's Ohel as well.

today everyone took off shoes and sneakers as well (anything - no diff if leather or not) eveyday as well?
