Only page 404 is missing - not page 405. Although until this point the odd numbers were on the left, missing one page number throws off the count and causes odd numbers to begin on the right.

Note- Page 404 missing doesn't mean that a full page of 2 sides was ripped out, it simply means that there is no page numbered '404'.

But then again, I think we're over analyzing this!!

I agree. Although the sideways lights must be confusing for them! I assume all sideway lights are positioned in the same direction.
If I ever become President, I will mandate Yellow lights before changing to green (like in Israel) to give you notice to start pressing on the gas!

They could achieve the same effect by putting a number counting downward in each of the 3 spots, instead of just a plain light. So if the red lasts 20 seconds, green 15, and yellow 5, the light would show 20 counting down to 0 at the top in red, then 15 down to 0 at the bottom in green, then 5 down to 0 in the middle in yellow. As far as size/readability, it wouldn't be a big deal: those who can't read the numbers would still be able to see if it's a red, yellow or green, based and color and position.

they have that in some places. personally ive seen it in China, but there people starting inching into the intersection when red is by 5 sec!!
