Wrong thread (unless I'm missing the humor).

Filed under "interesting." And the humor is in anyone thinking this may actually happen.

This is not true, and perhaps even apikursus. IIRC, the Gemara specifically says that it is impossible, and there are stories in which scientists believed that certain species self-reproduced and Chazal disproved them.

Slifkin wrote such ideas in his books, IIRC, and it was one of the primary reasons they were banned.

If they can impregnate themselves without males why do they need to give birth to males to keep the species alive?

Nishtanu hatva'im? We're not talking about things claimed to have happened 15 million years ago.

Don't pull that BS. It's bad enough when CV does it. You have an issue with what he said, show him how he's wrong.

Saying Chazal were wrong on science we don't understand how everything in Chazal aligns with today's scientific beliefs isn't Apikursus.

Let's call a spade a spade. An animal impregnating itself isn't a 'scientific belief'. That's a transparent attempt to paint a fact as a disputable 'belief'.

Wikipedia may be wrong, but if the only way to reconcile Yiddishkeit is to claim that, and claiming Wikipedia is right is Apikursus, you are a much bigger Apikores than me. If a Female of these species was to be born in a locked glass box in your house, and proceed to give birth again, you would have to believe Judaism is entirely false. Whereas if you come to terms with the fact that not every non-religious/halachic statement in Chazal is necessarily true, you can still believe Moshe received the Torah in Har Sinai.

Not endorsing everything there, but here is a great compilation of sources on this topic.

There is no doubt that Chazal had a lot of knoweldge of Physics, but while being nice to see,  what are you suggesting it proves?

If you're looking for more examples, the Gemara in Shabbos brings an opinion that the circumference of the world is approx 40,000KM, way before the secular world knew the world was round. This is actually quite interesting because it has direct implications to time of Tzes.
