The question I like the most:
Is it harder to write in English then in Yiddish?
I think the question should be the other way around
I’m in shape, round is a shape…

I still haven't figured out how people read/write Yiddish when there isn't an "official" way to spell words. It's like committing Ebonics (lhavdil) to paper.

There's a Yiddish version of Merriam Webster? I would love to be able to learn the correct spelling of Yiddish words. My current process is "write it as it sounds" and hope that my litvish accent doesn't cause too much "misspelling".

Dunno about a dictionary (if it exists it's probably more Yiddishist than Yiddish), but there are definitely proper rules and grammatical laws etc. that we learned in school.

Do you know if what you learned is written in a book? I would love to level up.

I'm sure the schools use textbooks to teach Yiddish grammar and spelling rules.

I'm still in shock that Yiddish is actually taught formally in school. I always thought that it's just used as a communication medium, and it's picked up organically (from home and/or school). That's how I learned Yiddish - in yeshiva.

What about when it's your first and only (or at least primary) language?

You just described every other language. Why would Yiddish be any different?

In short - I always thought that it's primarily only a spoken language like eg ebonics (lhavdil).

There definitely are multiple. I've only seen one nowadays readily available.

Google search came up with this :) (not the one I was referring to)

Don't need to go further than the homepage to see that it's

more Yiddishist than Yiddish

Lol of course I have. And it always baffled me because to my (then) knowledge there was no formal written Yiddish language
