This. And he gave information to his financial advisers. He did it for the money - and maybe for the sense of self-worth - not for any feeling of desire to help Israel.

He's sitting so long because he grossly damaged our national security for personal interests, pecuniary and otherwise; he egregiously violated his plea agreement, multiple times; he refused to apply for parole multiple times prior to now as he would only accept clemency or a pardon. I'm sure I missed some stuff.

The only relevant discussion is pidyon shvuyim which applies to all Jews equally. The only time we evaluate the status of the captive is in a case of "kedima" where we have to prioritize in order to make a choice (ie: mamzir talmid chochom before kohen gadol am ha'aretz.) But since that is not the case here that we have a choice to EITHER have JP or have some other Jew, let's just leave it in the category of good news. After that, there's not much else of interest to discuss on this thread. Let's get back to talking about more productive things.
