Car Rental Insurance in Israel
« on: July 21, 2015, 10:43:14 PM »
Hi,

I rented a car in Israel, but I just called my CC to verify insurance and I as informed it is not covered. Trip is next week.
I heard to many horror stories with renting in Israel. I used NoachCar that reserved it from Hertz.

My Amex said they do not cover Israel.
My Capitalone will only cover up to 15 days. I am staying 18 days.

What CC or advice is there foe the insurance. I do not want to have any hassle for a scratch or anything.

Thanks!

I rent with CSP.  Remember that unless you prepay, you can give them a different card to be billed when you return the car.

What is CSP? What benefit is there to switch cards?

Is there any advantage on using Amex Platinum vs  Chase Sapphire vs Chase United for car rental in Israel?
Amex Platinum gives you Hertz Gold Plus Rewards, but if Hertz doesn't give an upgrade than there is no point using Amex, correct?

Any card should be primary abroad.

Anyone have any experience on filing a claim for car rental coverage in Israel? I used the Sapphire reserve. I'm giving my car back in an hour or two and today, an egged bus hit my back bumper and (separately!) someone cracked my mirror. I have the information for both (but no police report). is it better to just not give any info and have visa cover it? I am nervous that if I have the information of the people that hit me, visa will ask for a police report.

Also, in general, would appreciate some advice from someone who had an accident in a rental car in israel and what the process entails (separate from the visa coverage). Thanks.

You can just tell them that Israel Police does not issue an official police report for accidents that don't involve any bodily injury.

Depending on the severity try slipping the guy checking in your car $20.

Otherwise tell them you backed in to a pole etc and juts file with Chase. It's not that difficult.

Thanks for your help. I was told by a few israelis that the police there dont really issue police reports and that I wont need it. I also looked at visas terms and it says the documentation needed includes a police report, "if available." So hopefully I should be good. For now, the rental company is holding my deposit and they said I have to work it all out with customer service and visa. i hope this is not going to be a nightmare.

Rented in Israel and box fell off truck and got my car. Driver gave me all his info.

When I submit to Hertz will they first charge my card and then try to get back from other insurance?

Used Chase united for cdw

Anyone have experience with this process? I've had damage to my car and filled claims but never when there was another driver at fault involved.

They'll generally charge your card and then go after his insurance, but you can try talking them out of it.

Best thing is to contact Hertz or have your agent contact on your behalf.

Thanks. What I am concerned is if they charge my card and then can't get anything from driver, it may be months later and be too late to file a claim with the credit card.

Is it somehow better to file with credit card also?
