Last time I tried to rent from Hertz with USAA (around a  half year ago), they made me put on the rental a private car insurance code (my father's). I can't do that this time because I am not on the insurance any more. I also do not want to use a CDP that I should not be using (for example, a state of NY garbage truck driver union membership :) etc).
I would like to pay less than $275 if that is possible.

I haven't rented a car in some time, so I am not up to par when it comes to deals anymore.
Thanks in advance

Anybody ever try Nü car rentals? Seems ultra cheap. Please chime in if you ever rented from them.

Can I do any better? And will the USAA work with waiving the underage fee? I applied all info so hopefully I can pass the desk to avoid any complications.

It is 5 days like you said... I did try a week and the rate was higher. If I do find a cheap week rate, can I return it early? Is there a fee for that?

I see Dollar / Thrifty / Hertz all have very good one way rates to Florida, $8 a day, however the biggest vehicle offered is a full-size.
Is there any good way to get the same rate for a minivan? i.e. would anyone give me an upgrade? Do any of these have an equivalent of the 'Emerald aisle' where I might be able to choose my own vehicle?
I would be renting from anywhere in NY/NJ area,  looking to pickup on or before Dec 31st, and would keep the car for a week.
Any advice welcome.

Hertz has gold choice but usually nvr more than a full size there. There is a reason they are charging so cheap for the car which is bc they need those cars down in Florida.

You need to pick up by December 31st, and it is a 15 day limit, so not going to work for your dates
