Outrage over "Cecil the lion".
« on: July 29, 2015, 02:09:30 PM »
The news is flooded today with public worldwide outrage over the killing of Cecil the lion. Celebrities are lighting up twitter with their "anguish" over this "senseless murder".

These same "outraged" celebrities have said nothing about the worst HUMAN atrocities in history going on daily in ISIS-controlled areas. They said nothing about tribes in Africa hacking children to pieces with machetes. Cecil the lion, an ANIMAL, is far more important.

The only logical conclusion here is that these celebrities are more animal than human, like this other guy who loved animals:

Let's not get outraged over an outrage.

People should be mad at lions for killing lions too:

Quote
"The saddest part of all is that, now that Cecil is dead, the next lion in the hierarchy, Jericho will most likely kill all Cecil's cubs so that he can insert his own bloodline into the females," the Zimbabwe Conservation Force said.

"This is standard procedure for lions," it warned.

Compounding the problem, "the females of the pride could die trying to defend those young," said Jeff Flocken, the North American regional director for the International Fund for Animal Welfare.

Freddy your link is busted.  That one goes to a poignant question regarding the relative valuing of human vs. animal life... not a conclusion that "celebrities are more animal than human."

We are outraged by things that are close to us. This board is #1 example of that. Please don't get me going.  >:(

It is ok to express outrage over one thing even if there is something more outrageous happenning. Don't express outrage over Hillary's emails because there is larger corruption, or don't express outrage over an Iran deal because Isis exists.

What happenned to Cecil was awful. It doesn't mean that terrorism is ok. If anything, the conclusion to make is that celebreties take on these causes because there might be a debate about it. No one thinks Al Queida is cool, but plenty think abortion is murder, and that trophy lion hunting is fun!

The issue is when you start to make moral equivalencies, or call people animals for being upset that a guy paid $50,000 to have a beloved lion captured, imobilized, shot with an arrow, and be allowed to suffer for hours and hours until it was finally shot and skinned.

While I think that killing an animal for fun is absolutely abhorrent and that this guy deserves all he can get, OPs point is also true that many (maybe most) celebrities are animals, and that's a point that's been demonstrated time and time again. (Btw, this is in some ways no different than hunting for sport, a practice many of these celebrities approve of).

OMG, I didn't even notice the pictures in the OP. Wow. Just wow.

I suggest you reread the post. Contrary to what some people believe, Nazi Germany wasn't a historical vacuum which can't be spoken about or learned from. Those who don't learn from history are destined to repeat it. It happens to be a fact that the nazis were very progressive when it came to animal rights and that those same "progressives" also adored animals and yet murdered countless people. So OP's point that often those who adore animals abhor people is true and well taken. What's so difficult to get about that is beyond me. I'm probably more opposed to this kind of hunting than most people yet I have no problem with OP's equivalency.

How about this for equivalency?

If you agree with this you are worse than Hitler: The only logical conclusion here is that these celebrities are more animal than human...

Answer a simple question: does the death of a lion in Zimbabwe deserve this much outrage? Does the "killer" deserve death threats?

I have read many comments today all over the internet on this story. Thousands of comments are people OPENLY stating that they care more about the death of animals than of human beings. Hundreds of people writing about how human beings are destroying the universe and how we don't need any more humans on this earth, but more animals.

I guess saying that someone you never met is more animal than human isn't that bad at all.

Have you ever not Hitler? You don't always need to meet someone to make a judgement of him. Celebrities' lives are constantly plastered all over the media I know enough about many of them to render judgement. If even half of what is said about them is true my statements (and OP's) are in fact too soft.

Great so we have an expert on celebrities. Can you give me your take on Sean Penn?
