I just finished designing the Shutterfly photobook I make from every trip, so I figured I'll share it here. Maybe a person or two will find it mildly useful :P (layout ideas and so on).

This is a 73-page, 8x11 hardcover layflat book.

Fantastic job on the photo book and truly amazing pictures! Can I ask what the green sky is all about? Is that a real sky or was that some photo-shoped  pictures?

Amazing to see how beautiful the world is! Thanks for helping to bring it out to all who can scroll through your stunning pictures!

did you read the whole trip report? thats basically what they went for!
SF, epic TR, epic SF book. wheres the pic with the web of wires? i loved the way you matched the background color to complement the pics and not detract. the panoramas are incredible too.

Thanks ^-^

Yes, I always try to have the background compliment the pictures. Only neutral shades, simple textures, and something that matches the "feel" of the page.

The layflat books are simply incredible for panos; as you can see, I can't get enough of them.

These books (for me at least) are something to come back to years after the trip and relive it a bit, and to show to others. It's always a balance of what to include in a book and what to exclude; in this case I didn't feel the web of wires added to the book. It fits in very well into a TR storyline, but it kinda stuck out as a bit random in the book.

If only everyone understands how hard it is to make a photobook. Just starting with choosing the pictures can turn anyone off.

I'm not sure what the general consensus are regarding how to go about picture choice, but I will share my (meager) experience. The first time I tried to put together a book I uploaded all the pictures I had of the event and tried to choose the best ones in shutterfly's website. To say the least, I did not end up finishing that book...  :(
The next time I came around to it I created a separate folder on my computer, reviewed all my pictures in the original folder and transferred the ones I liked to the new folder. Once I was done with my selection I just uploaded the entire new folder to shutterfly, and voila!  :)
One of the most beneficial parts I found with this is the zoom and pan that's easier in my computer than online. At that stage I also doctored any images I felt needed the tweaks, and only transferred the final version.
