Thought this would be appreciated here, since travel and photography seem to be two major hobbies on DDF.

I'm fairly certain the first one is Namibia.

Does it look something like that or was it just a photographer fooling around?

I've only seen it on my phone and in low-res so far, but it looks like a composite of one daylight and one nighttime shot. That, or the brightest moon I've ever seen.

Also there appear to be some galaxies visible in the sky. A normal camera won't be able to pick those up, but some special astrophotography ones will. There seems to be a lot of compositing here.

Anyone have a link to a high-res picture?

"The night before returning to Windhoek, we spent several hours at Deadvlei. The moon was bright enough to illuminate the sand dunes in the distance, but the skies were still dark enough to clearly see the Milky Way and Magellanic Clouds. Deadvlei means "dead marsh." The camelthorn trees are believed to be about 900 years old but have not decomposed because the environment is so dry."

Right I figured it was put together from 2 exposures, a night and day. That kind of defeats the purpose though (given that it never looks anything like that) but ok.

Bingo again :).

Do you see what camera he used? The Magellanic clouds (what looked like galaxies on my phone) are not really able to be picked up by standard cameras. Especially not with a full moon out.

What about the second one?

As far as what?

No idea where this is (too generic). The scene is wonderfully composed and a fantastic subject, but relatively simple technique-wise.

National Geographic doesn't mention the camera type.

But why Bingo, from what I understand it is one shot not two shots combined, am I misunderstanding?
