Probably the wrong place to post this so feel free to move it:
a copy of a post from SD
Stupid use for the points but you get the idea.  ;)

Amex Platinum call to get 25k points added through retentions
Dont know if this is a slick deal to most but it was for me. So last week I called to cancel the card as I found out no longer have access to american or us airway lounges. The guy at that time gave me a 100 dollar airline credit. Then today found out that delta is no longer allowing guests into the lounges. So I called in and complained and the lady offered me 25K points added to my account which would be at best 250 dollars. But then she said I can combine that 25K and 20k points of my own credit to pay for the 450 dollar card fee. I initially was only going to take the 25k points but since I have so many points I figured 20K of my own to pay for the 450 dollar fee was a good deal. This will atleast let me keep this card for this year and will reevaluate before my fee is due next February.

I called the 1800 number on the back of the card and in the automated system asked to cancel the card.
