i recenltly was in miami airport and they swiped my card to make sure its active. i dont know if they r starting to implement it at other airports too.
any one else have a similar experience?

They swiped it, but whether it's active probably wouldn't matter.

the card gets swiped to see if it's still working. some lounge attendants might not swipe it but they're all supposed to.

it's been like this forever. i can remember using my diner's club in international lounges in the 90's and they'd swipe it. The german attendants would give you the play by play as they checked you in: now i need to swipe your credit card to make sure its still valid, ok, that's good, now i need to see your boarding pass to make sure it's for a flight today, ok, now i need to see your id to make sure you're really you, etc...

Definitely not true. They have no idea if its active or not.

don't worry though, i was born in the night, but not last night...

i'm not going to say: "Gee, my card is cancelled, what do you want to do with it?" or "Wow, that worked? My card is cancelled, what good does swiping it do?" or "Why even bother swiping the card. I cancelled it after my points posted. I just got it for free lounge access. Now, gimmee my fake cheese and whiskey."

a couple of the lounge attendants in dtw really like me. i fly delta, who has the amex MR coupon thing going on. When I walk through the doors, they just give me a few amex coupons when i walk in ("so you can just stay a while and don't have to play the game running around to get them") and don't even bother half the time looking at my stuff.

A bit off topic, I got a charge on my canceled Amex platinum when I mistakenly copied and pasted it instead of my regular Amex. I am curious as to what would happened if I would declined the charge on the grounds of a suppose-to-be inactive account - anyone?

Nope. It's spouse and kids or 2 guests. I've tried in the past for parents and siblings unsuccessfully.

The PP booklet lists one lounge in Frankfurt (FRA): Sky-Club Lounge, Terminal 2D
