I loved the Darth Vader kid. (Star Wars geek).
Also, the Detroit ad for Chrysler was beautiful.

Vader kid was great.
Chrysler I wasnt crazy about. (I think I automatically disliked it as soon as I saw eminem mentioned, before even seeing the commercial)

Honestly, I thought the commercial really got to the heart of what is going on in Detroit, and it just happened to use Eminem (who, BTW, I saw on 60 minutes, and he is a completely different guy in his home life than in his public life - he has said that there is no profanity allowed in his house). It was more a beautiful expression of the current American experience than an ad for a car.

I'll have to watch it again with an open mind.

The only reason to buy an American car today is because of American pride, perhaps this is (part of) why Detroit has been trending downwards for quite some time now.

Not 100% true. A few of my friends who were recently in the market for new cars found the American cars to be better than the more popular ones. The bigger problem for them was that American car companies are doing a horrible PR job (kind of like Israel).

Also, the funny thing about the Chrysler commercial is that I actually remember what that was an ad for.
It took me a few minutes to remember what kind of car Vader kid was advertising (for the record I think it was a VW).

It's more complicated than that. Lots of Toyotas/Hondas are assembled in the US and some 'American' cars are assembled outside of the US. I didn't mean to make a blanket statement, but Detroit's failure is not (just?) about PR...

Ford and Chevy maybe. Not Chrysler. they're as bad as ever.

Hey, there's no reason to buy an inferior car just because it's made somewhere.
Then again, the new BMW X series are all made in the US (I believe that was another SB commercial, BTW, so this is on topic :) ), so if anyone had issues buying a German car, would that change their mind?

Detroit isn't trending down, it's a wasteland.

A lubab couple moved to CLE for a medical fellowship.  They had bought a house in Detroit for something like $150K some 5 years ago before his medical residency.  Now they can't even unload it as no place will appraise for better than $70K in the current market there so therefore no bank will allow someone to get a mortgage on it for more than that...

I was being nice.

Back OT: I can't help but notice (I'm stating the obvious here) how (most of) the SB ads are geared towards the SB viewing demographic. Cars, Beer, etc.

There's a reason for that... They aren't going to spend millions on an ad if it won't 'talk' to the people watching the game
