"Even More Speed" Worth It? (JetBlue T5 JFK 5:30pm)
« on: August 10, 2015, 04:49:52 PM »
Flying JFK to SJC tmrw leaving at about 6:30pm, is JFK terminal 5 busy enough around 5ish that its worth it to get the faster Security line? how long on average is JFK security around 5:30pm weekdays, and is that worth $15 (or $90 for a bigger seat + even more speed)? I saw some inconsistent responses elsewhere on the web and was hoping for a regular JFKer's input.

When I went it took 10 min, though as far as I know you have to first process the application online

Yeah, way there at terminal 5 at about 5:10 pm I saved about 25 minutes (totally a guess) and way back from SFO at about 7pm probably saved more like 45 minutes (of course prechek is an alternative). Took mint on the flight back and jetblue did a great job, real lie flat seat and got real 3+ hours of sleep on the redeye.

Nice can you share some pictures of the way back in mint? How was the kosher food options?

IIRC there is no TSA precheck at SFO, cuz their security is run by an independent agency not TSA.

I stand corrected, their security is run by Covenant Aviation Security, a private company under contract with the TSA. They do offer precheck.

I don't care if you had an honest to goodness king size bed: 3 hours of sleep on a redeye isn't much at all, and you still arrive groggy and not rested. Now 5+ hours is a different story.

some people can function on 3 hours perfectly fine for a day or 2

Could be, that's just my opinion.

Like most transcon flights? While not the best, if you sleep the entire flights it's still better IMO than only 3 hours.

+1
I had a roommate in school who always slept more than most people and wouldn't function otherwise, but in general, 3 hours on a redeye (of real sleep) is good for alot of people.

Sleep on a plane is in no way equal to sleep in bed

Best part was definitely dessert yummy chocolates. I live on very little sleep generally, and 3 real hours (I took a pill plus 3 beers) was great for an extra $300 in my mind.
