Question is specifically about using a debit card, not cash.

I don't see how someone can honestly say no, unless they have a strict budget where they document every single thing and don't ever spend more than they originally allotted.

Or if they have plenty of money in their checking account.

What's the difference between swiping a card and my autopay pulling from my checking at the end of the month or it pulling from my checking with every purchase?

If you're spending more money than you have monthly then that's a different story

Like TzviR said above, thankfully I've never been in a position where I had to worry about going into the red. I'm NOT rich by any means, I just currently have very little expenses. So to me it makes no difference.

To be clear it's got nothing to do with being in the red, you think with cash people only spend exactly what they need? The question is if a debit card is like cash in that it feels harder to just spend.

A. That's not the case for a lot of people.
B. You still spend more when you don't see it draining your bank account in real time and you also have to think "do I have this money in the account right now?". It's not even a question, it's proven by studies.
