Google maps sort of does this. When routing you, it shows in gray other potential routes and how much longer or shorter they would take if you pick them. And it constantly updates along the journey.

Could it be that you by mistake hit "avoid tolls", "avoid highways", or one of the other options in settings? That happened to me a few times.

GPSs seem to be programed to take you on the Turnpike if it's at all possible even if other routes are quicker.

Android auto used to tell me how much faster I got to my destination then the initial estimated time. It stopped doing that though, and I'm guessing it's because it was leading to people using that as a metric to beat.

It really annoys me that they removed it. It was my personal sport.

Same. I sometimes changed my destination and just showed up unannounced at random houses if I saw there was a traffic buildup on the way to my original destination.
