But please don't confuse people with opinions they don't like, especially when they come from well respected individuals who (are Democrats and) have been around the block enough to recognize Carter's hatred for Jews first hand. It seems to tax peoples' systems.
This is the opening line and I am sure the rest is fair and balanced.  ::)

President Jimmy Carter is the reason Israel and the Palestinians are still at war and nobody should listen to anything Carter has to say about the Middle East, according to Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz, who appeared Wednesday on "America’s Forum" on NewsmaxTV with Anti-Defamation League President Abe Foxman.

I need quotes. The newsmax article states an opinion but provides no quote to back it up.  If he's such an anti-semite it shouldn't be too hard to find...

In truth I'm far from surprised at some of the ridiculous twisting of the facts to make Carter look like a nice old man taking place here.
Jews have long been noted for their suicidal tendencies in how they deal with things. American journalists in Germany in the early 30's wrote in shock about how wealthy Jews would boast of how they gave money to the nazi party (for all their silly reasons). There are many more examples of this thinking in less extreme form, like the Gush Katif pullout, and Jewish support for (radical ?) democrats like Carter and Obama.
In fact it's like the blacks bending over backwards to be melamed zchus on David Duke, radical Muslims on Pamella Geller, and illegal immigrants on Donald Trump. For those that actually read and accept the Torah, hatred of your enemy is openly espoused. Hatred of Amalek, prayers for the downfall of reshaim, the term "yemach shemo" used by all the greats on a wide variety of people, and the list goes.
Loving your enemy and refusing to recognize him as such is suicidal and stupid. It probably stems from a golus mentality (zionists have a point here) in which Jews were defenseless and totally reliant on their rulers: I'd venture to say it's even a mild form of Stockholm Syndrome. Either way, this approach hasn't gotten anyone very far, (partly) leading to millions of Jews killed this century alone.

No reason to be shocked. I may disagree with him strongly on many issues but he's an intellectually honest man open to debate. That's a rarity today.

Blaming Carter for the problems is being honest?

I don't disagree that it's important to despise evil and do what's needed to protect the word from it.   The question we're discussing is whether Carter is evil, amalek, whatever.

It's important to use critical thinking and not just accept what people tell you.  You said that you haven't read Carter's book.  Can you please tell me some things that Carter has said against Jews (not against Israeli government decision)?  You compare him to Hitler and Amalek, surely you have abundant quotes...

ETA:  Here are some examples of what I'm talking about:
http://www.jewishjournal.com/world/article/2010_top_ten_anti-semitic_slurs_20101216/

These people don't disagree with Israeli government decision, they don't like Jews.

You have to recognize a simple fact-that much (or most) anti Israel sentiment that exists out there is anti Semitism in disguise. There's a reason why people are not either "anti India" or "pro", anti China or pro, but when it comes to Israel you have countless people who are "anti". Without you understanding this we can't go on in this debate. Of course no politically correct American former president in this "enlightened age" would openly call for the destruction of the Jews-that won't get him points. He's got to do it more subtly, so that people like yourself get fooled. I thought most Jews understand that but I see some yet don't.

Also I never said I didn't read his book. In fact I have read parts, but after a while I couldn't stomach the anti Semitic lies so I just put it back on the shelf with Protocols of the Elders of Zion and Mein Kampf.

That being said, I see that although you're a liberal you seem to be able to carry a civil conversation with someone who disagrees with you so I applaud you for that. Perhaps another time well continue this but now I need to go get ready for Shabbos.

How about some quotes from his younger years? Was this guy practicing his whole life to be an anti-Semite and not be caught?

Sorry, I must have confused you with another poster who said he did not read the book my bad.   But you said that you couldn't stomach the anti-Semitic lies in the book?  Can you quote a couple of them?  Were they actually anti-semitic or were they anti-israel and you extrapolated his antti-semitism from that based on your "anti-israeli government policies = anti semitic" formula?

I'm really open minded about this.  If someone shows me anti-semitic quotes, I'll buy that he's an anti-semite.

I thought you'd see him worse than Satan for what he did. But I guess the leading lawyer for the leading cause of shichvas zera and one of the big causes of thousands of Jews going off the derech is a person worth quoting.

ETA: many would say he did more harm to the Jews than Carter ever did.

Easily arguable as a far worse court ruling for orthodox Jews in American than the recent one...

But if that's a guy to quote...

He makes Carter look like an angel.  :)

ETA:Maybe Carter is an angel.

The Nobel Peace Prize 2002 was awarded to Jimmy Carter "for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development".

Carter has been involved in a variety of national and international public policy, conflict resolution, human rights and charitable causes. In 1982, he established The Carter Center in Atlanta to advance human rights and alleviate human suffering. The non-profit, nongovernmental Center promotes democracy, mediates and prevents conflicts, and monitors the electoral process in support of free and fair elections. It also works to improve global health through the control and eradication of diseases such as Guinea worm disease, river blindness, malaria, trachoma, lymphatic filariasis, and schistosomiasis. It also works to diminish the stigma of mental illnesses and improve nutrition through increased crop production in Africa.

I don't think anyone here thinks Obama or Arafat are angels just because they got the Nobel Peace Prize :)

It is more than just the NPP. What about the Carter Center? Compare that to defending pornstars.  :)

Arafat only received a 1/3 of the NPP.  ;)

Quotes from Jimmy Carter?

http://www.newsmax.com/FastFeatures/jimmy-carter-israel-quotes/2014/12/29/id/596734/

To go through the list, although there are several in which he talks at length, vaguely, about the positive relationship between the US and israel, there are a few quotes which are clearly biased (no one would ever apply these standards to any other counry in circumstances even close to those):

#1, the fact that the arab countries accepting Israel's right to exist is at the end, almost a postscript

#2, obviously (most of what he says is absurd, and the last sentence thrown in is a joke, since if that's true, why does the whole paragraph talk about Israel?

#8 - suffering since 1948? That's when the state of Israel was formed...did he mention that for 20 years, that "suffering" must have been at the hands of the arab countries that were "occupying" the palistinian territories (though no one ever complains about that)?

#9 - that's not the only reason for the war with lebanon (oops, we forgot about missiles being fired), and there's a huge difference between soldiers being held captive in inhumane conditions (sometimes after being out-and-out kidnapped, not captives of war), and a country holding prisoners who have committed crimes.

--In an op-ed piece on ForeignPolicy.com, Carter and ex-Ireland President Marty Robinson urged the U.S. government to acknowledge Hamas as a "legitimate political actor" and slammed Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip as a "humanitarian catastrophe."
