Can't say I researched it, but I far prefer KitKat to lollipop.

Once you root your phone and install a custom rom, you can never go back to stock Android, notwithstanding all the inevitable bugs a custom rom entails.
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

What is New
Compared to the previous developer preview update, you will find this final API update fairly incremental. You can check out all the API differences here, but a few of the changes since the last developer update include:

Android Platform Change:
Final Permissions User Interface — we updated the permissions user interface and enhanced some of the permissions behavior.
API Change:
Updates to the Fingerprint API — which enables better error reporting, better fingerprint enrollment experience, plus enumeration support for greater reliability.

Meh, I used to root and ROM as soon as I got my phones, at this point Android is so good that there's no need for a custom ROM, especially since you can achieve nearly anything with root and xposed framework

I have stock kit kat now, and I'm coming from custom kit kat. Non rooted feels so limited. I'm gonna root this one at some point.

Agreed, but IMHO root + xposed > root + ROM

The future for Xposed is quite uncertain in M as they are switching from a Davlik runtime to ART.

Don't they have an almost working beta for Lollipop?

I'm not following it that closely... I'm rooted but don't use xposed.

I have yet to find a version of stock from any manufacturer that's as good as an AOSP ROM. I haven't ran stock since my Droid 3. The first thing I do when I get a phone is root it and flash CM. I actually sold an S4 at a loss because I found out that the bootloader is locked.

Umm, ART was an option in KK, and is the only option in Lollipop. There are beta versions of Xposed for Lollipop, which are actually work pretty well.

I'm curious, what do you like in the ROM that doesn't exist in Xposed?

Also, to the best of my knowledge CM is very from AOSP, as a matter of fact Stock Android is much closer to AOSP than CM. AOSP stands for Android Open Source Project, that's core Android, all ROMs (Google's "stock" included) base their version of Android on AOSP.

It is true that many of the tweaks available in CM exist through Xposed. However, is rather have everything in one place, than installing 10 different modules, which can conflict with each other. Additionally, as I mentioned, Xposed for Lollipop is still in alpha, and not all modules work.

CM is based on AOSP, and is very similar. The only stock ROMs that are closer are Nexus ROMs, and perhaps the newer Motorola ROMs. Every other manufacturer heavily modifies every aspect of the OS, and their stock ROMs don't look anything like AOSP.

What's so bad about Lollipop? Are you running stock? I don't seem to have issues with it, but I haven't rooted it since the version I know of for lollipop (HTC M8 on T-Mobile) disabled wifi calling, which is key on T-Mobile when abroad.
