cant answer for sure about maxperks.But with staples rewards i read in the t&cs that the %100 rewards is on the price total after redeemed rewards.Apparently rewards count as a coupon which lowers your paid price as opposed to a payment method.

I've done it numerous times.  You just pay it as a gift card.  However, you don't earn the bonus $10 for every $75 spent for teachers.

Qualifying Purchase

Qualifying purchases are any products or services in our stores, catalogs or web site except for computers, gift cards, general use prepaid cards, SprintŪ service plans, phone cards, purchases with Retail ConnectSM pricing, sales tax, purchases made prior to the date of enrollment, and purchases made with your MaxPerks rewards. You will start earning credit for purchases with your MaxPerks member ID number the day you sign up.

I'm not sure. I've been playing with MaxPerks' ink recycling program over the last few months (up to $60 per month cash back) and other cash back options. I received $50 once for a promo that was supposed to be online only which I did by phone. Things definitely slip through sometimes...
I have a stash of MaxPerks right now so I'll just test buy one of these with my rewards and see if I get 'double rewarded' next month.
