I've been noticing, but for some items $25 off full price is is cheaper than 40% off, like if the item costs $50 ($25 off=$25, 40% off=$30.

I decided to go to gap yesterday and found that many things were cheaper in store than online. On the other hand, the section in store wasn't as good. Oh well, still got to use one $25/50 and got some pretty good deals

If you return with yor receipt, you get back only what you paid final. If you return without. You'll get current sling price- usually better, on a store credit.

Almost all Items in store were marked down and online not. Scored great deals in store.

I would understand from that response, with a receipt you will get back about $8, without a receipt you will get back about $16 store credit.

The $25 gets devided by all items on your receipt. So the computer kicks out the final price for each item after discounts. That's the amount you'll get back for each item when you return them with a receipt. I found the only way it's ideal to return without receipt is if you really don't have it, or if you paid absolute pennies. Otherwise it's not worth the hassle.
