Frontier Airlines $29 Chicago-Lax…Worth it?

Never flown Frontier, kinda worried? Anybody have experience with them? I don't have any luggage just a backpack so hopefully no hidden fees (other then $12 for confirmed seat-Aisle is a must)

 Unless it's small enough to be a personal item

Whenever I hear of these Frontier "deals" I think of my 2 friends who tried them out.

One was a return flight MIA-NYC. The flight landed in Atlantic City for some reason and he had to pay $300 for a one way rental to get his family home.

The second was a flight NYC-MIA. They arrived at the airport only to find out that one of the flight attendants called in sick and they would be cancelling the flight.

Think twice if it's worth it ladies and gentlemen....

The first story sounds like Spirit to me. They have a base in Atlantic City, and occasionally divert flights to there.
