as a ta the lowest rt nonstop listed fare before taxes is 404.00 on el-al (or 335.00 pls taxes on ba connecting flt)
the taxes=fuel surcharges  are do to go up

Nope and there are more normal length stop overs in the $900 range. I personally enjoy stopping over. I have flown direct 3 times and once with a stop over in Munich and once with a stop over in Frankfurt. In December I'm going to be stopping over in Zurich. After that I gotta stop over in Paris so I can grab a flight on the A380.
