Topic Wiki

For starters:
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3

Link to "Trick-it" thread on FT, Good Luck!

Booking: "Airline's own site is usually best. It just simply won't work there most of the time, hence the need for OTAs. And some of the smaller OTAs have employees doing manual checks of their tickets, so gotta be cautious there, too." (Moishebatchy)

See, this is precisely why booking FD's is NOT for the unwashed masses!!!

Here, let me make this nice and clear for you: when booking a FD, you CANNOT call the airline for ANY reason. You cannot call to add an infant, you cannot call to order kosher meals, you cannot call to request seats, you cannot even call to check if your flight is running on time!!!! No human eye (belonging to an airline employee) can ever see your ticket, period. If it cannot be done online, then you cannot do it at all. The risk is too great. Capische?

Oh, and as far as changes/cancellations are concerned... YOU CANNOT CANCEL A FUEL DUMP TICKET. EVER. Even if it's cancel-able online, because online cancellations are often manually reviewed by human auditors. You spent $450 on a cheap ticket to Israel and now your work schedule changed? That's too bad, you're gonna have to eat the $450 loss and let your ticket go into the garbage. If you try to cancel, your greed in saving $450 can trigger the cancellation of tens of thousands of dollars of other people's fuel-dumped tickets. Think I'm exaggerating? I've seen it happen with my own eyes.

NOW do you people understand what I mean by the "dark side of FD"?!

And NOW do you see why we don't like when the newbie, "gimme a cheap ticket to Israel!!!!" crowd gets a hold of these?! Let me tell you, when someone from that crowd gets a hold of these fares and books his family of 10 people for $4,500 total, and then they have to cancel the trip for some reason, I GUARANTEE you he will not resist the temptation to cancel and get his $4,500 back. He WILL cancel to get his money back, and he WILL get the dump killed for many other people. And THAT is a big part of why veterans don't like it when newbies get their hands on this stuff.

Amazing. Thanks for the memory jog.
Just went through that thread. It's amazing how the same exact people ( actually a few )  flip flop their opinions, between the 2 threads.
Life is as good as you make it...

Why are you so sure about that?

Because as you can tell, anyone who knew about this FD wouldn't share this info.
If the OP didn't find the FD himself he wouldn't know of it.

Besides, any reason to assume otherwise?
Did you see it posted on FT?

Doesn't everything work like that? If you know it you won't share and if it gets shared you want it removed, and if you see something new you take advantage of it.

The discussion over share vs don't share is a long one. People have weighed in on both sides. The fact that some people can't see the other side, and RESPECTFULLY disagree, is a real shame.

Either way, should we listen to him?

Someone who swears, insults, gets angry and upset over an opinion that alot of people understand and yet he in his seemingly self centered world doesn't understand? The same person who hasn't been too active in awhile?

Sounds a little chutzpadig to me for someone to have a tichyas hamasim to come back and tell people what to do.

#My2cents

Oh, give me a break.

How do you think I knew about this thread in first place if I'm no longer active?

Everyone and their mother knows I'm active here. That's no secret.
Dan even publicly posted it a couple of times.

Truth is, the sole fact that you didn't know I'm still on DDF shows how inactive YOU are.

And to all those who say I'm selfish - anyone who knows me can attest that I'm in no way gaining any personal benefit of this staying alive.

I don't fly economy. That's why I never book glitch fares (mostly Y fares).

All my international trips are either J or F. In fact, I've never in my life had a chance to fly in economy on an international leg.
I'm proud about that.  Maybe it's time to try it once,  but I first have Spirit on my bucket list.

I'm just saying it because I believe it's wrong and not only does it not serve any purpose - it kills it for everyone.
Love me or hate me. I still love you.

I'm curious why you think he should close the thread.
And I'm guessing the reason starts with "I".

"I" never said i think that. I personally think more ppl will lose out than gain by keeping it open, but I have nothing at stake because I don't do FDs.

So here is what I see..

When someone posts about the CVS thread, Cancer Visa Cards after the fact, people were saying how this is a online forum and it should have been shared right away. So whats wrong here? Someone is sharing something just like people wanted. Now that people realize its not good for them they are turning angles.

Finally, there are pages of threads like this out there on different forums, why not one here? The OP isn't giving off straight out clues, and these all come and go anyways.

If you don't like what is going on why don't you take the bashing or what not over to the Flyertalk thread here and bash them as well. I'm sure they would love it.

BTW, Mesh was singing a very different tune on that one...
Your flip flop on this issue would make the Donald blush...

I changed my opinion on this issue.

I spoke to some people who explained me the dangers of publicly talking about FD and they're damn right.

Yes, I'm proud to say I don't walk with my head to the wall.
I have an open mind, and I'm always open to hear someone else's opinion.

And if they're right, I'll give it to them.

Nothing wrong with that.

The world would be in much better shape if more people are open to change opinions when proven wrong.

If a friend shared it confidentially then he'll have issues with that friend, but what does that have to do with forum moderation?

No one can force you to do any moderation.

In fact, I said in my earlier post that I don't believe you have any incentive to do that.

We're just trying our best.
Maybe, maybe if you'll see that the majority of your longtime and active members believe it should be deleted you'll listen to them.

I'm not going into a tit for tat here, but your well know it wouldn't be the first time a thread is deleted just because a big number if DDFers thought it's the right thing to do.
