Help with NYC-LAX award booking

A friend is looking for 3 tix NYC (preffered) or PHL to LAX 4/15 - 5/2 (4/15 is Fri so its gotta be in the morning). He's got 80000 *w or CO silver not enough miles, any ideas?

I am assuming you checked availability if you transfer your spg miles to different airlines
spgflights.com does have for 25,000 points = 75,000 - unless flights r really expensive it is a really bad value for your miles but you do earn miles with the airline for the flight (at least)

I can't check availabilty on airlines as I'm not near a computer, but that sounds like an idea. However if he can do it with just 60k it would be better (transfering 20 to 25k).
