Are you a girl? (No offense if you are.) Put the liquid in your hand. Just like you do with the bar soap except you will actually become clean and not just cover your own dirt with a waxy, itchy film.

Is this conversation really happening?

No popcorn in the shower.

In that case, I'll up the estimate of price factor difference. Are we talking about a difference of 20x?

And as an aside, I use a loufa for bar soap, as well.

It has nothing to do with the nastiness of using somebody else's used bar... the problem is is that bar soap almost instantly makes you feel like you are coated in candle wax that will never rinse off. Although I must admit, it doesn't bother many people so I am forced to conclude that either a) different people have different skin, or b) we have the same skin but some people don't care about that terrible feeling.
If your bar soap makes your skin feel like wax then you need to get a new brand of soap!
Try "dove" brand soap and get back to me :) you will love it!

The residues left behind by soaps are often due to chemicals in the water making soap scum

Why does this not happen with body wash?

Try any of the bars from Chagrin Valley Soap (Partially owned by lubvitchers in CLE), I don't find them leaving the gross film:

Also their baby products are seriously incredible:

I can't, Dan. I just can't bring myself to do it. I have never ever had a positive experience with a soap bar.

Have you ever tried an organic soap bar?
Don't knock it till you try it. Worst case you support a great Jewish business :)

Yeah, my wife sometimes gets the super fancy organic soap bars with the chunks of oatmeal and hemp in them.

For me a small amount of body wash gets my body clean.
A $3 bottle will last at least 6 months. Soap bars definitely don't last that long.
Soap doesn't lather as well as liquid.

Also soap slips and falls on the floor all the time, you gotta constantly bend to pick it up.
And it washes off half the bar when you're too lazy or if you don't notice it lying on the floor.
That's all without getting into my personal preferences of the body wash smell and texture it leaves on my body.
