Topic Wiki

Thread summary:

Trump walks in a room.

1. Moshe123 shoots at him because he is pure evil, 2. ilherman+hachover jump in front of the bullets because Trump is our savior. 3. aygart tackles Moshe123 because Trump is better than HRC, 4. but Baruch can't stand Trump so he tells aygart he's crazy and Trump is a madman. 5. ExGingi would like to point out that who cares what he is, all that matters is the supreme court nominations. 6. Dan and others aren't really sure how this makes them feel plus they don't really want to drink poison. 7. Spoiler alert: Moshe123's gun was empty, it was just a blank.

And Freddie is in the back of the room just cooking his cholent. Until he announces that there are TWO menu choices, Pareve Cholent or Vegetable Lasagna. While etech0 figured out that they are both poisoned.

Repeat x100.

And then Hilary walks into the room with the most confidence a candidate has had in recent history. She is so confident that she eats both the Pareve Cholent and Vegetable Lasagna. Everyone is the room is aghast, they don't know how this happened, could it be Comey is behind this poisoning or was it that her Obamacare premiums were to high to get her the help she needed.

Everyone stared as she choked and was cast into oblivion on November, 8, 2016 the last day she was heard from in the public eye.

Moshe123, ilherman, hachover, Baruch, ExGingi, Dan, Freddie, etech0, and the rest of America are in total shock and hope that so long as Trump doesn't eat any Pareve Cholent and Vegetable Lasagna and stays true to his supreme court nominees this may be the greatest thing to happen since the CSR and GC's.

But remember this may be the beginning of the end...

P.S. Thanks to cognitive dissonance aygart, Michael Moore, and Scott Adams knew the whole time that Trump could win, unfortunately for JTZ he may be off DDF for the next 4 years due to his mandatory 3 times daily consumption of CROW!

As things turns out, the most prescient view on this election was that of Michael Moore! Though Scott Adams is also claiming a high view level of prescience.

Who cares about scotus?
Imho the only thing that matters is the economy and security. For these the president has a large say.

Scotus is all about making serious decisions about whether men can go to the little girls rooms, killing babies, and other important stuff that affect this countries culture more than anything else. Occasionally of course they rule on things of economic importance but nothing too partisan anyway.
What about when the supreme court rules that its illegal for a Jewish wedding hall or synagogue to refuse to host a gay wedding or for a rabbi to refuse to marry a gay couple...

That could be debated but, as pointed out upthread, in a worst case it's over in 4 or 8 years. SCOTUS nominations can and do affect generations!

And it's the SCOTUS that authorized the disaster called Obamacare (with an argument even the administration didn't come up with) which has a major economic impact, and taking us down the path of סדום matters quite a bit if we don't want to end up like סדום.

It was already said somewhere that the US president is the weakest leader in the western world. SCOTUS nominations are where he can exert more power than anywhere else.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Foreign policy and military are largely the president as well.  (I think I might have read that in Charles Krauthammer

Meh, I don't look to the supreme court to uphold our values or halacha.

That is his whole point. We need justices who will make that separation.

I'd like people to explain two things that I hear a lot but have trouble understanding:

1) Why do so many say that "Obama is bad for Israel"?

2) Why the hatred for Hillary? Is it all because of the email thing?

Traits that are important in people -- listening well, caring about others, working hard -- HRC wins in all of these!

http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/07/25/donald-trumps-ghostwriter-tells-all

I do understand that some may refuse to vote dem because of things like the Iran deal or SCOTUS or immigration, but if you have any flexibility, I think personal characteristics and experience are super important.

Basically I believe the American culture is broken beyond repair, and I also believe that scotus's primary function, that is being discussed, is to judge on cultural issues. - therefore I don't care who is on it or what they say.
Let's vote for the candidate who is better for the economy and for US and world security.

Um...with a little help from the State Department.
President shapes wars and foreign policy.  Always has.  State department executes his /her vision.  Iraq,  Afghanistan,  Korea,  Vietnam,  WW2 were all presidential decisions.
US position on Iraq,  Iran,  Libya,  Israel,  all presidential decisions.
There are three branches of government,  State isn't one of them.

I still don't understand, my example is something from the supreme court that would have a direct and major impact on your way of life not the American culture and having 2 conservative justices appointed vs 2 liberal judges over the next 4 years can make a major difference on those decisions  for the next 25 years...also if you want an economic reason that very same example I gave you can have a major economic impact bec the first and most likely repercussion.of a supreme court ruling that you can't refuse to perform a gay marriage would b the loss of tax exempt status of orgs. that refuse.

Dunno, I couldn't care less if scotus officially forces rabbis to do gay marriages.
The Rabbi who married me off dosent care, and neither does my caterer, flower macher or anyone else.

These things only affect us if we are being all "American" about everything..

Im not saying that the culture doesn't affect us. It definitely does.
Just that the bottom line is that scotus mostly affects cultural issues. I also believe that scotus follows popular culture, not the other way around. So I dont care much who is appointed.
Wtvr. Lets move on.  :)
