Still, elit has a point. This is overly cautious reporting. It would be correct to say "the police identified the shooter." True he hasn't been convicted by a jury of his peers, but then the possibility also remains open that the police are wrong.

Also, shooting isn't technically a crime. Maybe you'd have to say "alleged murderer" but shooting is just an action.

Based on what we are being told it would be much less likely in this case where he was shot by police as an active shooter by agents who were at the scene. It would take a pretty grandiose conspiracy theory.

That's my point. You can repeat what the police are saying without the "alleged" qualifier. If the police are wrong, that doesn't make the reporting wrong.

If no connection was ever established and, in fact, it was established that there was no connection at all since the shooter was actually a leftist, then why is it being mentioned in this context at all?
