Some of Trump’s longtime acquaintances have even had some fun with the spectacle, as reporters and gawkers camped out in the lobby of Trump Tower watch every move of the president-elect’s visitors.
Media widely reported Trump met with Barry Switzer, the former University of Oklahoma and Dallas Cowboys coach who has known Trump for decades. But Switzer said he was shopping with his wife and daughter on Fifth Avenue and decided to walk into the Trump Tower lobby after seeing the Naked Cowboy. He had no meeting scheduled.
"All the media people said, 'Coach what are you doing here,'" Switzer said in an interview. "I told them I was here to see the president like everyone else."
Switzer said he instead went upstairs in Trump Tower, bought a coffee at Starbucks and came back downstairs.
"I told the reporters I had a great visit, and that we were going to make the wishbone great again," he said. "I told them I was going to be Secretary of Offense and that Trump knew how to run the ball down the field."
"Then I went back to my hotel and laughed my ass off," he said, still laughing this week. "It went everywhere. Everyone believed it. I had all these calls, but I was just jerking people around."

Update, Dec. 22, 2016, 8:40 p.m.: The Anti-Defamation League has spoken with the parents in question and asserted that the original report in Lancaster Online overstated their fear. The parents told the ADL that they left on vacation and did not “flee.” I asked ADL regional director Nancy Baron-Baer whether she believed the Lancaster Online report was inaccurate. She told me that “the actual story content” in the report was not necessarily incorrect, but that “the issues related to the word ‘fled,’ ” which “conjures up a very scary scenario.”

My typical method of understanding what they are trying to say without worrying about the precision of the words doesn't work here. It is what they are trying to say which is the problem. They are trying to make it as if the story is really accurate and only the word fled was misused. The word fled WAS THE WHOLE STORY!

Putting aside the fact that fled was certainly not the whole story, even from the Jewish family angle (the Lancaster report also said their child had been harassed by classmates - which wasn't refuted in the ADL statement), it's still a quasi fake news issue in regards to the original reports. The official line from the school all along was that the request to be excused (not a complaint) cause them to review the whole practice, and the taking up of instructional time was the reason for the cancellation. Yet it was reported as being primarily the fault of the former, and painted with the war on x-mas brush.

Bottom line, no one should think that 'their' side of the media is immune to having their agendas adversely affect their reporting (ie fake news).
