I think the thread title should be changed to Cholent Tips & Tricks, way more interesting than the circling conversation about which poison to choose (or perhaps the name can stay, since some people consider Cholent a poison )

DW, despite making an amazing cholent, would probably agree that it fits into the poison category.

For me, Erev Shabbos is weekly cholent party day, if I manage to get the kids interested, it can all be gone before Shabbos.

I stopped using bags since my Cholent doesn't fill my pot and the top of the bag would melt to the pot (I tried a few different companies, and various amounts of water), regardless that's only supposed to help with clean up. Leaving it on a low simmer with enough water should do the trick IMHO

Talking of which, there are two important questions to ask:

• Which crock pot do you use? Are you makpid to only use one that heats only on the bottom?
• What consistency do you like your cholet? Watery? Paste? Somewhere in between? (This might call for a topic poll )

Btw it doesn't just help with clean up. It helps it cook evenly in a water bath with no hard stuff building up along the sides and bottom of the pot. This doesn't apply to Reynolds bags that don't have water between the bag and the pot

And if no candidate gets 270, who gets the presidency? Do you really think it might be anyone other than T or C (and I would guess that C is more likely) Be realistic.

What happens if no presidential candidate gets 270 Electoral votes?

If no candidate receives a majority of Electoral votes, the House of Representatives elects the President from the 3 Presidential candidates who received the most Electoral votes. Each state delegation has one vote. The Senate would elect the Vice President from the 2 Vice Presidential candidates with the most Electoral votes. Each Senator would cast one vote for Vice President. If the House of Representatives fails to elect a President by Inauguration Day, the Vice-President Elect serves as acting President until the deadlock is resolved in the House.

And then Trump/Hilary wins anyway.

Used to do that for years, and nothing beats a good heavy cast iron pot for that. But in the last couple of years we only leave the Cholent on the crock pot (after initial cooking in cast iron pot). Everything else gets heated up Erev Shabbos, and we put it in the oven which was heated to 550 and turned off right before Shabbos.

There's no way my is letting me convince her to leave a flame on over Shabbos (even on Yom Tov she only lets since we have to actually cook and you can't do that on a hot plate, but she's restless the whole Yom Tov), so I'm stuck with a crock pot...

• I like to be only a little watery (maybe rather fatty), not pasty and definitely not dry

• I have one of those (I think it's called Pro Chef) that also has a cover for the knob and a piece of blech to go between the pot, all to make sure it's proper גרופה וקטומה, but I find that even at the lowest setting it's a little too hot.
• Fat is one of the most important components of a successful cholent. I also find that the salt will have a very significant impact on the overall water absorption and consistency of the Cholent. It's a true art!
