Simple math. If you have 9 normal people running and 1 lunatic, and 11% of the electorate are lunatics; assuming the normal people split the vote evenly the lunatic will win.

(Honestly speaking; I do believe the USA has gone to the dogs.)

Though on an emotional sentiment I pretty much agree with what you said It's really inaccurate. the country didn't choose these 2 ppl. I Don't have the math but I'm pretty sure a lot more people voted for the other options combined then these 2 but in the Republican field it was very divided while all the extremists and ignoramuses were very united (and quickly joined by the opportunists yes you hannity) and Democrats were forced to choose between a guy who had no chance and probably the only one more.likely to lose than hillary to trump
So when the primaries are over the majority of sane Americans are stuck with these 2 pathetic options....
So yes the process stinks but not sure if there's a better option for it

Duvergers Law says that when you have a system which only elects one person for a position you will end up with a two party system with everyone voting for the most extreme of thier opinion. If the president would be more like a parliament it'll save us from this terror. Just when we move over to such a system remember to learn from Israel's mistakes.
