I think people should vote practically and not theoretically.
At the end of the day, it's either going to be Hillary or Trump. A write in vote is as good as a vote for Hillary.

agreed. Wish that there was a better option for the White House. Neither are deserving nor have earned it, however our vote is still needed.
As I read recently, which one will create an environment that may result in more international terrorist attacks? Perhaps Trump is a stronger international leader who will possibly ward off the weakness, vacuum and open borders that breed deadly, extremist-based terror attacks.

I plan to write in Ryan, Rubio, or Kasich.
If for some reason on election day I felt that one was much less evil than the other I'd vote like that.

So it's a protest vote. Sends a message to the parties.

There's no way DJT can possibly win without a HUGE voter turnout for him and by some miracle Ds not showing up meaning IF u live in a state that your vote counts (ahem) than a non vote for DJT just leaves HRC with her majority that she already has the only thing your acomplishing is not leaving a stain on your consience or sending a message to your party leaders that you never want an insurgent candidate ever again and you like the way they do it i.e. concessions etc ...
However for most people who's votes don't count do whatever you want it should neither leave a stain on your consience and it won't send a message to your party leaders.

Why would you write in any of those rather than vote for McMullin?

I think that staying home is more of a protest vote. At least you didn't participate in the entire process. Just imagine if voter turnout would be in the single digits, what legitimacy would elected officials have?

However, in order for a protest to make any difference, it needs to be in an order of magnitude. I think you would need a major grassroots organization in order to get voter turnout below double digits in any state, so that the protest is even noticed.

I didn't research McMullin.

People were taling politics at a recent farbrengen with R' Chaikin. He told a story of a simple wagondriver in lubavitch who was driving people discussing Russian politics. At one point the passengers asked the driver's opinion of the election. He said do you know the difference between the horse 💩 that the wagon wheel splits into two on the right side and the left side?
