SCOTUS does not change culture. It generally follows and panders to it.

The whole fascination with SCOTUS, as if they control anything is a big mistake and wasted effort imho.

You couldn't be more wrong. the power of the court is in 1 or 2 individuals who have no threat to be fired or voted out and therefore it makes all the difference in the world. a justice like scalia didn't pander to anything or anyone. By very definition The fight over the supreme court us are we picking judges that will or will not pander to the social justice flavor of technology month

Obamacare is not cultural. Neither is Citizens United.

Obamacare was definitely not the court reflecting prevailing culture since Obamacare has always been unpopular.

That was my point. SCOTUS is very important. ExGingi mentioned culture but I don't think he meant that per se.

Also, don't forget that the Court is meant to uphold the constitution in the face of majority opinion, not mend it to conform to majority opinion. Suppose a majority of Americans disfavor rights for blacks, or Jews, or any protected minority.

Predicting the last 6 elections correctly is like so not a big deal. There are thousands of analysts making predictions and each one is 50/50.

Someone here (I think in the making money thread) described how people use such predictions for stocks to swindle clients, predicting different outcomes to different groups until they secure a group of clients who have seen the predictions play out each time. This is a similar concept.

For one an inside and personal connection To the president. Also in the TV and radio world he is competing in makes him the big player who was right about trump and helps grow his fan base. As oppose to the loser who was all in on trump and help lose the presidency to Clinton. So basiclly everything that matters to him

The scandals are merely part of the problem.
He's also a very poor debater because he has a very superficial grasp of the issues.
I don't think Cruz would be doing any better right now. But I do think Rubio would be killing it.

With regards to the article, I think he is using a strawman argument. Conservatives have been saying for years that "if we nominate a conservative we will win" not "an outsider GOP candidate who would fight dirty."

Even Trump's defenders and supporters are not arguing that he is a "true conservative".

If Cruz was nominated and was losing, his argument would be a lot stronger.

First, Obama can't "do" anything, so yes, this is simply alarmist. He can try to place pressure much like Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, but it's unlikely to affect anything -- not this late in his term anyway.

Hillary will likely take a middle-road, much like Obama and Bill Clinton.

With Trump, I would be very concerned. He cancelled a trip to Israel because he didn't like something that Netanyahu said. He also hesitated to say that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, and only "clarified" his stance once under pressure. Despite his rants on Twitter about he supports Israel, he simply can't be trusted.

I would be very surprised if that happened. He will likely focus on social justice issues as he has been doing all along.

That is the most likely scenario, but don't think for a second that Obama and Clinton are any less vindictive than Trump. The most we have seen Trump do with his vindictiveness is say stupid things Obama and Clinton have translated to really serious action.
