unlimited data - no talk/text deal
« on: February 12, 2011, 11:26:56 PM »
Hi. I need a phone (or any device) plan that has unlimited data (internet) but doesn't need talk or text. I'm not sure if it's more worth it to buy a phone or maybe some other small device that gives you internet on the go.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

It seems like you would have to carry around a laptop for this. I want something like a blackberry without talk or text.

A friend of mine has a broadband card (like that) which he keeps connected to a MiFi router, and just uses an ipod touch as his main line (apps for calling and txting)

We will need to contact you via videophone in order to complete your Sprint Epic™ 4G by Samsung purchase.

^THIS!

I just started a new thread about that. Virgin Mobile wasn't interesting until recently because their selection of phones were all bottom of the barrel.
But they just started carrying the Optimus, which is Sprint's best 3G phone (and a personal favorite of mine). Plus there are ways to get discounts to bring the price down even lower.

This sounds good. You just carry around this card and the ipod touch can connect to it?

I just checked Virgin Mobile. It seems like I can get unlimited everything (besides talk) for as little as $25 a month. Does anyone have this and have good experiences with it?

If yes, I might even cancel my regular plan since I barely use talk anyways.

Or even less than $25:

I'm thinking of getting a Blackberry because of BBM. Would I be able to get that under this Target deal?

No. The target deal is for Virgin Mobile, which has a very limited selection of phones, all of which are traditional standard feature phones.

The only reason they suddenly became interesting is that they began offering a really decent Android phone, the LG Optimus. If you're not interested in Android, or particularly with this phone, then Virgin Mobile isn't for you.

I saw a Blackberry under Virgin Mobile too. Why is it only a good deal if I get the Optimus? $25 (or less) a month seems awesome to me!

Ah- you are correct, I forgot they offer the BB curve. I think its a really old model with lower end specs to today's standards.

I guess if you just want it for BBM, that would work though.

I guess its just not as big of a deal as a current model Froyo-touting Android phone for less than you can activate it anywhere else (I know people who had the curve on $30 SERO plans. Android was never an option for less than $50 a month until recently).

But aren't those SERO plans over? Maybe I should just get the Android (cheaper than the BB) and use the new KIK service. But this deal really seems great to me...I'm wondering if I'm missing some small print anywhere.

Anyone know about the service? Will it work anywhere that Sprint does?

Sprint allows roaming onto VZW for free.
This won't allow it at all AFAIK.
