I hate Jeff Smisek and I have no real reason why.
I don't fly that much and I honestly don't give 2 craps about United dehubbing Cleveland, and don't care if Smisek was maximizing shareholder value by using effective PR or lying.

So why do I hate him? Because everyone, including Dan, have told me to hate him.
So AJs comment from a different perspective was actually appreciated by me, and I thought the threadcrapping response was inappropriate. Not for language, but for being the catalyst for another ruined thread.

I'm in agreement w/ the thrust of Yuneeq's comment.

I'm not commenting on the ban, since I'm rarely in JS and don't know his actions elsewhere. But his warning against the mob mentality that exists on the internet is well put, as was his willingness to write that in opposition to the current that exists in this thread.

I'm not commenting on the ban, since I'm rarely in JS and don't know his actions elsewhere. But his warning against the mob mentality that exists on the internet is well put, as was his willingness to write that in opposition to the current that exists in this thread.

He wasn't banned specifically for his actions in this thread. He was banned for the culmination of 6 months of highly inflammatory posts (if you haven't read the murder at the gay pride parade, please do that now) that have ruined the friendly discourse that used to exist here and that has resulted in dozens of members requesting that this action be taken.

Arguing the other side of a topic is fine, plenty of members have done that since 2008 without issue. Trolling and attacking others for their positions is a rule violation and repeated violations continue to occur while warnings have been ignored.

Hate for ruining 2 great airlines (truthfully, as United's abysmal performance enabled Delta to kill their FFP...)? Yes, on the level that hate applies for someone who has lied to his customers multiple times.

AJ is passionate and stubborn about what he believes in, does that make him a troll?
Every time he brings another view point there's usually someone or a few people that agree with him that are afraid to interfere with the circle jerk.

Nobody gets banned over a single post. A ban is a culmination of repeated warnings and making the forums a less inviting and cordial place to hang out.

I can only speak for myself but the "shock jock" style was a real turn off for me. The fact that there seem to be a few supporters of that style is even more surprising.

My guess is that most people who are turned off simply go away and don't even bother leaving a comment like I just did.

In the end, it all depends what kind of posters Dan wants to attract. It's his website, remember.
