to good to be true (5 nights at the westin maui)
« on: September 17, 2008, 12:42:53 PM »
I got a call from SPG offering me 5 nights at the westin maui for 750$ plus a 180$ voucher at avis. Is this to good to be true??  Does it makes sense to take this offer or do c&p for 90$ a night and 4800 points??

Sounds like a great offer, I would grab it!
They will try to get you to listen to a timeshare-but you don't have to!

the catch is... my reservation has been booked with c&p  and they didnt take out all the points. i originally booked for 2 nights i then added to the reservation... but they only charged me 4, 2 nights worth of points  ( 9600 ) points?? Is it still worth it?

Make sure your reservation is confirmed for all the nights you plan on being there. It is very unlikely for SPG to make a c/p reservation without taking out the points.

u are right generally they dont.. this is a rare exception.. cause i had 2 reservations for the same nights in 2 hotels.. i told the spg rep that i will only take one of the reservations. is it possible that they will still cancel or will they just take out points or do nothin? and leave it as status quo?

Old thread, I know.  Been doing some housework trying to organize this forum.
But what ever wound up happening with the offer, Bades?  Did you do it?

Has anyone done the timeshare thing like described in the first post?
I believe they also usually throw in a number of Starpoints as well.

i probably should have done it, cause with resort fees and taxes it almost came to the same price, and c &p is not considered a stay

Actually, I stayed at a Sheraton in NJ with C&P and they did consider it a stay. They gave me points on the paid portion of it and they deducted that night for stays towards platinum status.

It's YMMV.

My family and I each did the Westin Ocean Resort Villas timeshare deal in Maui in October 2008.  It was ~$600 for 5 nights and included a free rental car from Avis and a $100 resort credit.

It was an Amex affiliated offer open to people in certain states but was advertised on the web.  The offer said two or more families could not go during the same time, but my family, my parents and my sister and her family were each able to register for the same dates.

We were in and out of the timeshare presentation in about an hour.  The hotel was nice (not very hawaiian), but I much preferred visiting Wailea or even the main part of Kaanapali.
