When crossing i gave them a stack of passports with my passport and one of my child's birth cert. Placed a copy of  my birth cert on bottom on pile. I was just waved through after routine questions. I dont believe she even noticed passport was expired.

They are pretty trained to see if one is doing something illegal or not.. People act differently when they are, and they pick it up...

Canada does not require a passport for entry by land, it's the USA that requires

That is the usual experience. Don't say anything to the border control and you should be alright.

Not necessarily, I've gone through a ton of times with expired passport and they just let me go...
