iPhone 6s
« on: October 02, 2015, 06:22:11 AM »
I'm looking to purchase the new iPhone 6s 64gb - my first time getting an iPhone.

Was wondering if someone can help me with a few things I was wondering about:

1) I use T-mobile. Should I be buying it from them or directly from apple?

2) If I would like to rely on the first year insurance coverage from apple and afterwards from the credit card I purchased it with (as opposed to paying for Apple care), which credit card should I be using to buy it with?
I have Amex personal: SPG and PRG - Chase: Saphire, Freedom, BA and Southwest and the Barclays AAdvantage Aviator cards.

3) Is there an advantage of using one of the financing plans (aside of paying off the phone over a 24 month period)? And if I would use one, if the phone would be damaged while it's in middle of being paid off would the credit card insurance coverage work?

4) Is NY a good place to be buying the iPhone tax-wise, is there a better way of ordering it online?

Thank you very much!

1. If you buy from t-mobile directly it might be locked, buy from Apple.com.
2. Either of your Amex cards, best warranty extension on the market.
3. You answered your own question. CC extended warranty only covers purchase price, if you finance you won't have one big purchase for which to extend the warranty. Has nothing to do with when its paid off, has to with the fact that you don't have one-lump CC charge to cover.
4. Same as with anything else, if you can ship to a state with less (or no) sales tax, then you won't get charged sales tax.

Does anyone know if one can order the phone online and use the 200 for the trade put towards the upgrade fee? I know this can be done in store but not sure if I can get the credit instantly.

Rarely works for iPhones. Just recently had this problem. Amex will require you to send in repair documentation and then show you a clause in their T&C why iPhone repairs are not covered.

To the OP, Apple is very good at repairing and replacing phones within the first year. They will give you a brand new phone for any type of problem except for a cracked screen which costs $129 to repair or liquid damage which is not covered at all.

If your buying full retail there are no tax advantages of ordering online and no major retailer will have the iPhone 6s on sale. The best place to buy iPhone 6s full retail is eBay daily deals, most of the times you can get them without tax and with a discount. If your buying with an upgrade don't buy from Apple as they don't have sales- it will cost $200.
I will not respond to PM about the UPS method.

I will not respond to PM about the BBLD method.
