Verizon Unlimited Data Plans - price being raised $20 as of Nov. 2015

I have 4 lines on Plan: NATIONWIDE TLK&TXT SHARE 1400

L1 UDP upgrade available
L2 UDP no upgrade available until May 2016
L3 TDP Upgrade available
L4 DumbPhone No upgrade available

My Goal is to renew 2 year on L1 and L2 UDP lines so I can avoid $20 price increase.

What are my options and how do I execute them.

Idk if there is a way to do both with the upgrades you have

You can probably try transferring the upgrade from L3 to L2 and then doing BBM on both L1 and L2.  Post in the thread on SD, they're very helpful over there.

Typically I'd tell him to just upgrade L3 and use the phone on L2, but he's trying to avoid the price hike.  No one's really sure what will work, but I believe what I posted is his best bet and he'd be extending the L1 and L2 contracts.

The question still stands if you transfer L3 to L2 and then back will that work
(I've done from a UDP to a TDP but not back and forth)

Why transfer it back?  Just use the phone on L2 then and use L2s current phone on L3, although I still don't think it'd be a problem to use it on L3.

In order to keep the unlimited data you need to transfer the upgrade to another line

Best Buy Method

You can do the BB Method if you have a line situation like this (you can have additional lines, too):

L1: UDP 4G LTE phone Yes

You have to pick a new data plan every where except for Best Buy - IT DOES NOT MATTER WHICH ONE YOU PICK!!!! Please do NOT ask about this on the thread. If you are uncomfortable picking a new data plan, then order from Best Buy.


1) Have a 4G LTE phone active on your UDP line before you order;
2) Through a 3rd party retailer online,* order a new smartphone using your UDP line's upgrade and have it shipped to home not shipped to store;
3) When the new smartphone arrives, remove the SIM card it ships with without turning it on or plugging it in; and
4) Place the 4G LTE SIM card that is currently active on your UDP line into the new smartphone and turn it on.

* if you get an email or phone call after you order from Best Buy saying they could not process your order and they need for you to call them, do not call them - it is best to cancel the order. They will likely try to involve Verizon and the Verizon rep will manually kick you off of your UDP. If you get such an email or phone call, after you cancel the order check to make sure your Verizon balance is paid off in full, that your shipping and billing address of your credit card match and that you used the proper account passcode. If all of those things are true, you may have been randomly selected for them to manually process your order. If so, you will be kicked off of UDP if you call them and give them your Verizon info. You can try replacing the order and seeing what happens, but if you repeatedly get the email/call, then I believe you have been selected for a manual order. Idk if this is a BB quality assurance thing or a Verizon thing, but I suspect it is a BB QA thing because it only happens with BB not any of the other 3rd party retailers [UPDATE - AMAZON HAS STARTED DOING THIS, TOO!]. If it repeatedly happens to you at BB, your option is to choose another 3rd party retailer to order from or to use the Switzma Method. You also can use the 4ever Method if you have a TDP line.

DO NOT ORDER FROM COSTCO OR MOTOROLA IF YOU ARE DOING ANY OF THE BEST BUY OR UDVZWIP4 METHODS AS 3 PEOPLE HAVE LOST THEIR UDP BEFORE THE PHONE EVEN SHIPPED!!!! COSTCO IS RANDOMLY CHECKING THESE ORDERS AND MANUALLY SWITCHING PEOPLE OFF OF UDP!!!! MOTOROLA IS DOING THIS TOO!!!!

Many people upgrading through apple.com using the Best Buy Method are getting this error message when they go to activate or switch a device on their line after upgrading through apple.com:

"Your request cannot be completed. We cannot process your request at this time, please try again later."

This error results in you not being able to activate or switch a device on your line yourself and having to involve Verizon. However, people are reporting that it falls off of your line eventually.

Here are screen shots of the Best Buy Method - however, it says to check out as Guest. You don't need to do that - you can log into your BB account and check out through your BB account and get the rewards points and promotional gift cards if any.

It's been the go-to method for years.  These are all risky; VZ can choose to remove UDP from anyone at anytime if you've used any of the methods. 

You have to choose between the safer methods and paying the additional $20 or the slightly riskier and possibly saving it.

They can remove you even if you just transfer upgrades within the plan?

They can remove you for no reason at all.  We're not entitled to UDP, and we're effectively out of contract on that phone if the upgrade was transferred off of it.

Thanks for all the fats responses and help guys. But I can't figure out how to transfer L3 upgrade to L2 on BB. I transfer it on VZW sitell but it does not reflect on BB. Any Help?

I had the same issue.  If it's not letting you transfer it on BB's site then VZ moved you to an early Edge promotion, and to the best of my knowledge you're SOL.  Sorry    Please let me know if you find a way around it.

My L2 is eligible May 2016 so when May 2016 comes I could I use BB method or transfer L2 upgrade to L3 and that could possibly renew 2 year contract before it expires? What you guys think?

It expires at the same time as you are eligible for the upgrade so I doubt it will work

I think there is a month or week buffer in between contract expiring and when they let you upgrade. I could try to sneak it in that way.
