Toronto hidden city
« on: October 08, 2015, 11:46:55 PM »
I booked a flight from nyc to Montreal with a stop over in toronto. I plan to drop the last leg and stay in toronto.
Anyone know if I would be able to get my luggage in toronto?

everything is possible, you need to somehow convince them to only tag it to YYZ.
However, DONT DO IT.

Please post in the correct thread next time  :)

when you land in Toronto everyone must take their luggage and go through customs

In YYZ from NY? Never knew that.. So technically any hidden city to Canada from the USA would be the same? I know incoming flights to the usa you need to pickup the luggage & clear customs. Didnt know Canada makes you do the same

From YYZ and YUL (and many more Airports) when you fly to the USA you go through customs in Canada so it wouldn't work

What's so confusing? if I fly from Toronto to new York they have custom agents in Toronto and you do customs there.

See above, im asking usa to canada.. Is it true that all bags must be picked up when landing in canada from the usa no matter the second destination?

From usa to Canada you must take your luggage at your first stop. And therefore can check luggage on a hidden city.
I was just correcting your previous statement.

I know for YYZ that's correct, they always announce it when I land there.

Are u sure that all customs are done in Toronto automatically even when flying into an airport that has customs in the us ? If u fly into lga then u would have to do customs there cause lga doesn't have international flights but into jfk or ewr you would also have to clear customs in yyz ?

yes.  It speeds travelers along.  Makes the wait time in YYZ productive and keeps Canadian passengers, of which there are many, from clogging the US airport customs.

YTZ does not have customs facility IIRC, for porter flights from EWR you clear before.

I've flown to YTZ as a final destination and I've always done customs upon arrival.

I'm pretty sure there is no pre clearance anywhere outside of Canada

Could be things changed, I remember when porter had an offer for slots at DCA and LGA but was not able to get them, because YTZ did not have a preclearance facility, so they had to go to EWR and IAD where customs can be done on arrival.

Could it be that it's different, ex EWR vs ex YTZ. Do they have customs in YTZ or do you clear when you land in EWR?
