Is there a way to ignore a thread, meaning it shouldn't show up in unread posts?

I know that in some other forums if you ignore once or twice (don't open the unread) then it disappears from unread list, though I'm not sure if it works here...

I hope it should never be like that here.
I have threads sitting in my list for months until I get to them.
The Chase A/A thread (for example) was on my "project" list for awhile, and so are others.

I get that sometimes, where when I click on unread tthreads I don't see a certain thread, but when I browse a forum I see that thread with the orange "new" button near it. For some reason it tends to happen after I'm away for a few days, anyone care to explain it?

these threads have posts you 'actually' didn't read?
When someone edits a post you don't see them in 'unread' section, but you see the 'new' sign on that thread.

I was in middle of putting together a post, and my connection broke, I'm not sure what happened. The post doesn't make sense. Can't delete it now.
